An Anhinga in Fenny

Image
On the pathway surrounding Fenny spring, right next to the clubhouse, is a bird sanctuary.  First time shooting there with the cannon I managed to catch this Anhinga, and its mate, right after they had lunch. The Anhinga eats small fish that it catches by diving into the water, spearing them, then flips it to swallow whole.  Unlike most birds its feathers are not waterproof, since they need to dive to catch their prey.  As a result, they always find a sunny perch and spread their wings to dry out after eating.

Fenny

Image
The Villages is enormous, sixty thousand or so 55+ ranch homes at the moment, they have approval for and are building another sixty-five thousand homes.   Fenny is the very southern tip of the Villages and I'm near the end of Fenny, so it's a forty minute drive if I wanted to go all the way to the north end of the villages.

Where in Fenny

Image
My place (the orange dot) is a very short walk to the large rec center and the Fenny Grill, as well as the Fenny Springs walking trail, the nature preserve, two solid golf courses.   The smaller Spanish Moss rec center has a lapping pool and a walking trail with outdoor exercise equipment.

Clubhouse

Image
The main clubhouse and the restaurant is a short walk.   It's supported by a required amenities fee and is staffed during the day.

Clubhouse interior

They've done an outstanding job on the clubhouse.   I can see myself walking over for coffee and the paper to plan my day beside the fireplace… The ladies thru the window are from the crafting club, which appears to be a contact sport here.

Fenny Spring

Image
Fenny is named after the spring, this is the head of the spring at the beginning of the walking trail, next to the clubhouse.

Bird Sanctuary

Image
The trails surrounding the spring are bird sanctuaries, also home to otters and a few smaller alligators.

Spanish Moss

Image
They kept all the old Oak trees in place, all covered with Spanish moss.   It's a very quiet, peaceful place.

And here is my new home...
